Risk Management and Trip Planning for Alpine Environments
Tom Harris is the Partnerships Advisor Alpine for the NZ Mountain Safety Council.
He will be discussing risk management and trip planning in alpine environments, with a particular focus on avalanches. Most of us, whether we are acutely aware of it or not, already practice some risk management strategies when planning our trips. But by creating our own strategy or structure for how we approach risk management, we can make sure we are covering all of our bases before we leave on our trip. More importantly, we can also make sure those considerations don’t evaporate once we get above the bushline and the influences of heuristics/human factors kick in.
Tom will also highlight some of the most useful aspects of the New Zealand Avalanche Advisory at avalanche.net.nz.
